THE ORIGIN OF TAN STATE

The Tan Kingdom was situated in the current Shandong Province Ji Nan ( 山 东 省 济 南) (Li City) ( 历 城) 70 miles east South of Long Shan Township ( 龙 山 镇). That is about 2 miles east/north of the Long Shan Station of the Jiao Ji Railway Line ( 龙 山 胶 济 铁 路). The land around belonged to the Tan Kingdom, The name in Han was Dong Ping Ling District ( 东 平 陵 县). It was also called Ping Ling District ( 平 陵 县). It was pronounced as Royal Kingdom by Han Wen Di ( 汉 文 帝) after ruling it for 16 years.

In Jing Di ( 景 帝) 2 years declared as Ji Nan Administrative District ( 济 南 郡). Later on extended to Li City, thus abolishing Ping Ling. Its name was later changed to Le Ann ( 乐 安) by Wang Mang ( 王 莽). On Wu De ( 武 德) 2nd year, Tang Gao Zu ( 唐 高 祖) set up Tan Kingdom, revived Ping Ling District.

During the 6th year, Tai Zong Zhen Guang abolished the Kingdom to become part of Ji Zhou. It was changed to full District 17 years later. The Song-controlled Ji Zhou Li Cheng Land was renamed Old Tan City ( 古 谭 城) and later became Dong Ping Township ( 东 平 镇). During the Qing Dynasty it was changed again to Ping Yin District ( 平 垠 县). In Ming Guo ( 民 国) 24th year, the Shandong Provincial Government and the Central Research Academy Archaeological Section ( 山 东 省 政 府 与 中 央 研 究 院 考 古 组) combined to form a Relic Research Association 古 迹 研 究 会) to explore the old country of Ji Nan East Long Shan Town Tan Kingdom ( 济 南 东 龙 山 镇 谭 国 故 城).
